GTR Supertrophy championship

Well the season is over and I've had a chance to relax a little and do a something different as well. As you know, I'm a bit of a Lamborghini person and recently I got the chance to race one! I was offered a guest ride at the last round of the GTR Supertrophy championship at Valencia and I didn't need to be asked twice!

I know Valencia from riding there on the Aprilia Superbike, but going round it in four wheels was something else! In a car you can use so much more of the track. Actually you use more than just the track and many times you have two wheels on the tarmac and two wheels in the dirt! Great fun! The car is similar to the road car, except everything is stripped out of the inside. All there was inside was one seat, steering wheels, pedals and the fire extinguisher - no creature comforts at all!

I was hoping to get in some practice before the event but that didn't happen, so the first time I got to go round the track in the GTR Diablo was in first practice on Friday for one hour. I should have had another hour's practice, but I had to let some Spanish journo drive the car for some time and I ended up only doing five laps in the second session.

There were two different races and I qualified sixth for one and second for the other and felt pretty happy with that. There were three guys in with a chance of the championship and as it was my only drive I didn't want to get in their way fighting for the title. But it was good to be on the front row for the first and then all hell broke lose in the race it's definitely a contact sport, I can tell you! My car survived pretty well, but others had their mirrors ripped off or had tyre marks up the sides of the bodywork.

It's a strange feeling touching somebody else at speed and not crashing as you probably would do on a bike. I sat behind the top three and just let them get on with and ended up fourth.

That was on the Saturday. In Sunday's race, one of the top three in the championship DNF'd so I drove a bit harder and got on the tail of the second placed guy. I could've overtaken him, but that would've messed up his title challenge, so I just sat there and took third and a podium!

Afterwards, he came up to me and thanked me for my professionalism. It was a real fun weekend. They are a great bunch of guys and although it was war on the track, it was fun off it.

Lamborghini's managing director Manfred Fitzgerald came along the race to get out of the office I suspect and was happy with my performance. As a result, I've got a ride in the support race to next year's Melbourne F1 Grand Prix, but at the moment I don't know exactly what my plans are.

Since the end of the season, there have been heaps of stories and rumours, but I have tried to keep out of them. I've spent some time having fun and partying, but I've also carried on training and keeping fit and I'm still at 67 kilos in weight. The weather in Monaco has been a bit mixed, so quite a bit of my training has been indoors. I've been on the boat a couple of times and the rest of the time has been spent sorting out my apartment after being on the road for so long. Whatever happens, I'm here until a week or so before Christmas when I'll go off to OZ and catch up with family and friends. By then, maybe I'll have some news for you.
In the meantime, have fun.
See ya,

Troy
