Goodwood Festival of Speed
What a fantastic event! I was really honoured to be invited this year to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Barry (Sheene) had always talked about the festival and how great it was but unfortunately every year it clashed with something in my calendar. But, this year we were free so I was entered for the hill climb.
Everything about the event, the House, the track, the organisation and the atmosphere, was something really special. I doubt there is anywhere in the world where it is possible to see all those cars and bikes so close up. And to meet all the heroes of past, present and future at one event is truly amazing. I certainly got the chance to meet a few of my heroes... John Surtees, Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss. I actually had a great chat with Surtees as we were pitted next to each other and he had plenty of interesting things to say.
We had the pleasure of attending a dinner at the House on the Friday evening as Guests of the Lord & Countess of March and the ball they host on the Saturday evening is absolutely wonderful. We really had a great time. It was also great having the time to spend chatting with the fans. Its hard at the racetrack at certain times during a normal race weekend because you have to be so focused on the racing itself, its not always a good time for a chat. But the atmosphere at Goodwood was something very special and I think everyone in the crowd and on the track felt priveleged to be at such an event.
I certainly hope to be able to go again.
