It's showtime

The highlight of the New Year social calendar out here is always the local shows; mainly they are a livestock show, with show jumping, cattle competitions, fun rides for the kids, showgirl competition etc etc. This year's show was pretty special for us because we had a family interest. Maddie was entering Miss Showgirl in the Junior Princess category and my brother Dale was taking part in Saturday night's "Smash up Derby". Basically the aim of that game is to be the last car standing. About thirty enter and spend the whole evening trying to smash into the others to take them out of the running. The only rules are that you have to be driving in reverse to impact someone and there's no hitting on the drivers side!

Every year we sit and watch and from the sidelines it looks so much fun. You convince yourself you can win because from the sidelines you can see everything! Dale now works at our local bikeshop (KTM importer) and even though he's flat out, him and the boys in the workshop found a bit of time to repair last year's vehicle!! This year there was a time trial event first for a warm up and Dale "DC Smooth" won it, no competition. Then he was doing really great in the Derby when they had to stop it temporarily and his car didn't recover from the rest. He was one of the last four out there though so, all in all, a pretty good effort for a first timer. Some of the other guys practice, for sure. They look like they drive all the time backwards! Anyway, good effort DC. It was a lot of fun. And congratulations to Maddie... 3rd in Junior Princess. Great stuff.
