REMEMBER THIS NAME - DAMIEN "ICE" WHITE
It has given me great pleasure during this last year, whilst forced to sit back on the couch in Monaco, to watch a close friend of mine, Damien White, racing his ute in the Australian Ute Brute Championship. These guys still get better TV coverage than we do!!! I can't watch a replay of my race this weekend at Valencia but I can still watch the Ute's season review.
Quite seriously, Damien "Ice" White, as he is known to his competitors, showed tremendous skill and determination once again last season. The racing amongst these guys is fast and furious and Damien has many times fought very hard to bring his Quirks Refrigeration Ford home to enjoy the podium celebrations and to be a serious Championship contender. I am very proud to be associated with Damien and to assist his career in any way I can - I even have my own website logo on the back of his ute!
Throughout his career Damien has always impressed me with his sheer determination and his great professionalism. Last year, when not inside the ute, he was offering his knowledge to race fans and building a name for himself commentating on races. That in itself is a pretty daunting prospect. I have to admit too, that Damien has never been far from me with words and thoughts of support and motivation, the kind of stuff that only another racer can offer.
With the next season approaching very fast, and the first race in just two weeks, Damien has accepted yet another challenge. He is aiming to manage and run his own race team for 2003. Using the vehicle he raced in 2002, Damien is hoping to secure enough sponsorship to allow him to be competitive in 2003. I offer him my very best wishes in acheiving his goals and I would truly love to see him racing over here in Europe before long. I can only remind him my advice from a few years ago - NEVER GIVE UP.
